CSI provides investigator-friendly materials to support ethical and efficient submissions.

CSI recognizes that many studies involve individuals with lived trauma experience.

Investigators are expected to:

• Use trauma-informed language
• Minimize participant distress
• Provide opt-out and  withdrawal options
• Include referral resources when appropriate
• Avoid coercive recruitment practices

Special attention is required when working with:

• Veterans and military families
• Justice-involved individuals
• Survivors of violence or abuse
• Individuals with mental health or substance use histories

Investigators must demonstrate how they will:

• Protect participant privacy
• Secure data (digital and physical)
• Limit access to identifiable information
• Store and dispose of data appropriately

HIPAA-related considerations must be addressed when applicable.

CSI may require documentation of:

• Investigator credentials or experience
• Human subjects’ protection training (when applicable)
• Supervisor or sponsor oversight (for students or early-career investigators)

Training requirements are proportional to the level of risk involved in the research.

Investigators must:

• Submit a study closure report
• Retain records according to requirements
• Disclose IRB approval in publications and presentations
• Acknowledge CSI IRB as the IRB of record when applicable
